What you can buy with Bitcoin? Table of Contents

The most expensive things bought with Bitcoin

Bitcoin was originally conceived as a decentralized currency, to be used for everyday purchases just like cash or bank cards.

The rapid rise in value bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have seen indicates that cryptocurrencies are traded as assets, just like oil or precious metals.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t buy goods or services with cryptocurrencies.

But what about the big expenses? In this article, we present the most expensive or just plain cool items ever bought with bitcoin.

1. The most expensive pizza in the world

No such list would be complete without this famous piece of cryptocurrency history.

On May 22, 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 bitcoins for two pizzas at Papa John’s.
This was made possible by seeking help on the bitcointalk forum (Papa John was not so far-sighted).

It was a good deal for the UK forum user who paid 25 $ for the pizzas.

10,000 bitcoins were worth around $ 41 at the time. Now it is worth much more.

Nine months after the purchase, Bitcoin reached parity with the US dollar, making those two pizzas worth around $ 10,000.

Five years later, it’s as if the two pizzas were bought for $ 2.4 million.

Today, the price for those pizzas would have been over $ 93 million.

The anniversary of the purchase is celebrated as Bitcoin Pizza day by the cryptocurrency community, which delights in updating the price hike.

Hanyecz, however, has no regrets: “At the time it was like Bitcoin was of no value, so the idea of trading them for pizza was incredibly cool,” he told the NY Times.

2. The most beautiful cars

Luxury cars are a good way to spend your cryptocurrencies, with more and more dealerships accepting cryptocurrency transactions.

Notably, VinWiki CTO Peter Saddington bought a $ 200,000 Lamborghini Huracan in 2015 for 45 bitcoins in 2017.

45 bitcoins were worth about $ 420,000, but Saddington claims he paid only $ 115 when he bought them in 2011.

“Lambos” has also become a meme in cryptocurrency forums and chats, but other types of luxury cars can now be purchased, such as a 2008 Ferrari 430 Coupe for 2200 BTC or the 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG BLACK for 3500 BTC.

Cryptocurrency holders are also usually fans of innovative tech companies, so it’s no surprise to hear news of Tesla purchases with bitcoin, such as someone in Florida’s 2013 purchase of a Tesla S for 91 BTC (109k dollars at the moment, nearly $ 850 million today).

3. Luxury homes

Buying property with bitcoin has become more popular than ever.

The websites offer a wide range of luxury accommodation from around the world that can be paid for in bitcoins.

Confirmed bitcoin real estate purchases include a Bali villa for 800 BTC ($ 500k at the moment) and a purchase of 1.4 acres of land in Lake Tahoe, California worth 2,739 bitcoins ($ 1.6 million at the time).

These transactions, like most, were done by converting BTC to dollars.

The largest confirmed directly real estate sale of bitcoin was that of bitcoin investor Michael Komaransky who sold his Miami mansion for 455 BTC.

It was worth $ 6 million at the time of the sale in 2018.

4. Bitcoin supper

French artist Youl represented the bitcoin community in a beautiful painting based on Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper called Bitcoin Supper.

The painting depicts a personification of bitcoin in place of Jesus, surrounded by various allegorical figures from the cryptocurrency subculture.

Demand for the 140cm x 70cm painting increased when a post was posted on reddit introducing the artwork to the cryptocurrency community.

A bidding war reached 4.65 BTC ($ 2,900 at the time), making it the most expensive Bitcoin-paid painting ever sold.

5. The largest gaming PCs

Computer graphics cards are popular with cryptocurrency fans and are used for mining, but did you know you can also use them for … computer graphics? The best gaming PCs are powerful systems capable of representing very high-resolution images, but this cutting-edge technology does not come cheap.

But you can use that ‘mined’ cryptocurrency with GPUs to buy real gaming PCs.

Electronics retailer Newegg accepts BTC.

With a single bitcoin, you can buy the world’s best gaming hardware from top gaming brands like Dell Alienware, HP Omen, Razer, and more.

Perfect for your cryptocurrency-funded esports career.

6. Private aircraft

Private jets were considered to be within the reach of the wealthiest and now the new generation of bitcoin millionaires are joining this club.

Bitcoin Foundation member Olivier Janssens reportedly chartered a private jet from PrivateFly.com in 2014 for around 55 BTC.

If you’re buying your own jet, SkyCraft Airplanes has been offering private planes for bitcoin since 2013 and counts bitcoin mogul Charlie Shrem among its customers.

The SkyCraft SD-1 Minisport was available for 80 BTC when it was first announced, although they are now available for much less.

7. Season tickets for basketball games

Home games will also soon be available for purchase with cryptocurrencies, but only subscriptions for 1.02 BTC are currently available.

Warriors fans will no doubt be happy, while fans of other sports are doing everything to make sure their favorite teams do the same. On StormGain, of course, we are more passionate about football.

8. First-class training

Other institutions that accept bitcoin include the European School of Management and Technology in Berlin in Germany and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Switzerland.

Switzerland has historically been open to accepting cryptocurrencies and can be a great place for a budding cryptocurrency entrepreneur to study and network.

9. Joining the yacht club

Just like Lambos and private jets, yachts are another traditional hallmark of the super-rich and now Bitcoin’s nouveau riche are buying them too.

Florida’s Dennison Yachting has added bitcoin as a payment method to meet customer demand.

26 North Yachts, another Florida company, claims to be the largest yacht broker to accept bitcoin.

In Europe, Yacht Base accepts cryptocurrencies and offers charters for trips to Croatia, Greece, Italy, or the Caribbean.

10. Citizenship in Heaven

Buy a yacht and you sail to a tropical island and find that you like that place, why not use your cryptocurrencies to become a citizen of that place? This is an option in the beautiful South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu, the first nation in the world to offer citizenship for a bitcoin payment.

Antigua and Barbuda in the Caribbean also accept bitcoin for citizenship.

Both countries are inviting new people to buy homes there and offer visa-free access to other areas.

Due to the volatility of cryptocurrencies, prices are set in dollars, but Antigua and Barbuda would welcome you as a native for less than 12 BTC at the time of writing.
